Andrew G. DiLeo lost his long battle with cancer and passed away on June 2nd surrounded by his family. Born in Worcester, MA on August 3, 1947 to Rose and Samuel DiLeo, Andy was the eldest of four children. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and after graduation headed west as he had never loved the cold Massachusetts winters. He eventually made Phoenix, AZ his new home, met and married Margaret “Peggy” Fitzgerald, and started a family as well as a successful engineering business. He was a strong and loving man; a man whose warm and caring personality drew many towards him both in business and private. He was never too busy to help a friend and gave generously of his time to numerous organizations over the years. When asked to volunteer as part of the FEMA program in which engineers accompany Emergency Response teams to help determine safety in damaged buildings, Andy said yes. In 2005 he was part of the Phoenix team sent to New Orleans who helped with rescue efforts in Hurricane Katrina.
Andy was preceded in death by Peggy (2008), father Samuel (2002), and sister Josephine (2013), and is survived by his wife Heidi, his children, Maria (Owen) and Andrew (Jessica), grandson Samuel, mother Rose, sister Lucille, and brother Frank. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19th, at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Scottsdale, AZ, and his ashes will be inurned at Paradise Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care he received.
