Burton Reinhold Cardell, age 97, passed away January 7, 2019. Burt was born to Reinhold Gustav Cardell and Esther Victoria Johanson Cardell in Worchester, Massachusetts on April 3, 1921.
Burt leaves his beloved eternal companion, married 74 years, Helen LaVern and children Madelynn “Sue” Cardell and Joan Cardell to follow his son John Burton Cardell to be with his father in heaven. He was a devoted father and son.
Burt was an aeronautical design engineer working with the founding fathers of aircraft and space flight in the early 1940’s in Los Angeles, California and Phoenix, Arizona. His work for Garrett Engineering, Airesearch Manufacturing Company, Allied Signal, and Honeywell Garrett Aerospace was remarkable. He retired in 1984.
He was a World War II veteran stationed in the Philippines, 32nd Infantry and served as a Technical Sargent in the 27 Red Arrow division. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooters award.
He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and worked in numerous callings for the church as well as over twenty years in the LDS Mesa Temple.
Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m., with Funeral services following at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, at the LDS Ward Building located at 38008 N. Basin Rd in Cave Creek, AZ 85331. Military Honors Ceremony and Internment Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery located at 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009.
