Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Edna Gene (Genie) Putnam, passed away on January 27, 2019 after an extensive battle with Alzheimer’s. She was at Payson Care Center under the compassionate and benevolent care of Station 3’s nurses and aides and Hospice Compassus. Our family wants to sincerely thank all of the folks involved with Genie’s care.
Genie was born in Houston Texas on a beautiful Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930 and celebrated her 88 years in various places, including Houston, Scottsdale, Albuquerque, and over 20 years in her favorite place under Diamond Point: Star Valley.
Genie is survived by her two daughters, Valerie Gene Loving and Maureen Sheppard (and her husband Gary); her 4 grandchildren: Rex Hamilton Watson, Carter Eugene Loving (and his wife Celestina), Kristin Loving-Kane (and her husband Eli), and Kurt Andrew Watson; and her great-grandson: Lincoln Monroe Kane.
Our Mother had a zest for life, was kind to everyone she met and tried to enrich all of our lives with her smile and positive attitude. Genie had a profound love of the Lord, and wanted to share that with all. During her late sixties, she was a ballroom dancer with Arthur Murray, competing and winning in Las Vegas dance competitions. As she aged she became an accomplished adult-coloring book artist. Her mastery of color combinations, intricacy and shading was truly amazing to all who viewed her work.
Genie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Curtis V. Schroeder on November 20, 2000. They were both avid Texas A&M fans, as that is where Curt graduated from in 1950. I think we can hear her hollering “Gig ‘Em Aggies” as she crosses under the Pearly Gates! God Bless you, Mom!
Genie will be interred with Curt at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ. on Tuesday, February 12th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Genie’s name to Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care, 511 S, Mud Springs Rd., Payson, AZ 85541
