Gary Joseph DeGeronimo Sr., 69, of Dewey, Arizona, passed away, Saturday, November 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Michele (Gino) Verdone, son Gary (Barbara), brothers Jim and Ken and granddaughter Jordyn Verdone.
Gary is a veteran of the US Army where he learned to be a court reporter while serving at the Pentagon. After the Army he continued his career as a court reporter for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix. However Gary found his life passion in his second career, which spanned the last 20 years, working with and training dogs. Initially working with various shelters across Sedona and Prescott to evaluate and adopt rescue animals and later creating his own non-profit orgaziation Gentle Hearts Service Dogs. His work evaluating and training service dogs to help those needing a helpful companion touched the lives of many across the community He will be remembered for his caring nature and the positive impact he had to both human and canine alike. While in hospice care, the constant stream of 2 and 4 legged visitors was a true testament to how much he was loved.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Immediately following will be a reception and Celebration of Life at 11264 N. 128th Place, Scottsdale, AZ. A second remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 9th at 2757 N Truwood Dr, Prescott Valley, AZ. Those wishing to sign the guest book may do so at any of these times and locations.
