Gary John Soltys, 77, of Scottsdale, AZ, unexpectedly passed away on October 3rd, 2018. Gary was born March 22nd, 1941 in Detroit, MI. He was the first born of John and Bernice Soltys. Gary grew up in Clio/Mt. Morris, MI where he graduated from high school and spent his time at his parent’s place at Clear Lake, MI. Gary went through pharmacy school where he graduated as a licensed pharmacist in 1964. Gary met Carolyn “Sue” Valley of West Branch, MI and were married for 39 years, until the passing of Sue in 2000. Gary and Sue have daughters, Nadine and Lynne Marie. Gary worked for many years as a pharmacist and loved his career. He graduated from high school at age 16, and graduated from pharmacy college at 19. He was a pharmacist and a manager of Cunningham’s Drug Store in Port Huron , MI by age 21. His work ethics were phenomenal and this was passed onto Nadine, Lynne, and grand-daughter, Kelsey. Due to Gary’s passion and love of medicine, and wanting to cure Sue’s rheumatoid arthritis because the winter months were brutal for Sue’s illness, the family packed up all their belongings, and left many family members and friends behind while heading to Arizona, hoping to find a cure and life style that Arizona could offer. Gary later married Mitzi Castro in 2002 and took care of Mitzi until her last breath, January 20, 2018. In the last few months of Gary’s life, he was very active with his dog group at the park in his neighborhood, and his grief support group at Desert Hills Presbyterian Church. He will be missed by many!
Gary is survived by his daughters, Nadine (Ray) Sulier and Lynne Marie (Craig) Davis and his precious grand-daughter, Kelsey (Erik) Briggs, and his step-children, Ryan, Robbie, and Kellie, and his doggies, Bisby and Sedona.
