Gerald (Jerry) Lloyd Griffith was born on June 18, 1943 in Kansas City, son of the late Lloyd and Violet Griffith. He passed away in the early morning on June 9, 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 75.
Jerry grew up with his sister, Sharon, in the Missouri town of Kansas City, graduating from Westport High School in 1961. He played football, ran track and participated in student council and the Honor Society. Jerry then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1966.
He met and married Patricia Wuich in 1969 in Las Vegas, NV. Their daughter, Dee, was born in 1971 and son, Darren in 1974. Jerry was promoted and transferred to Arizona in 1975 with Pacific Mutual. After serving as the Regional Manager of the Southwest for 18 years, he started his own company. Jerry founded Benefit Coordinators in 1989 and after enjoying four decades of success in the insurance industry, he wound his business down and had a great time investing in various ventures, including real estate, equities, restaurants and even a yacht!
Jerry was a bold character and lived life to the absolute fullest – traveling around the United States and abroad, spending time with his family in Arizona and South Dakota and finding fun wherever he could. He was a strong believer in Christ and had no hesitation in sharing that with others. Jerry will be missed immensely by his family and friends and the world will be just a little less bright without him.
Jerry is survived by his children, Dee and Darren; five grandchildren, Justin, Mya, Lainey, Skylar and Mason; and his sister Sharon of Red Owl, SD.
Services will be held on Friday, June 21st at Messinger Mortuaries in North Scottsdale. This will be a celebration of Jerry’s amazing life, with a cocktail hour (happy hour) starting at 4:30 pm, followed by a service at 5:30 pm, then dinner. Our hope is that this will be an interactive, fun time remembering and sharing the funniest and best stories about Jerry!
