Joseph M. Wozniak, age 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2019, under hospice care in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born January 26, 1948, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late Mitchell and Flora (Bonfini) Wozniak. His siblings include the late Cindy Hart, Diana Baldi and Michael Wozniak. He is survived by his daughter, Armida; three nieces, Josie Pickens Gruber, Siena Baldi, and Brooke Baldi; and two nephews Michael Pickens and Bruce Hart.
Joe graduated from University of Detroit in Chemical Engineering and Business, then moved to Phoenix in 1976 and achieved a masters in International Management. At Honeywell he worked in engineering, international marketing, then became the manager of software support in the Technical Assistance Center at Honeywell's Industrial Automation Systems Division (IASD). His team solved problems around the world for customers.
At the age of 35, Joe was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy (MD) called Facio-Scapular-Humeral (FSH). It affects the face, back, arm and leg muscles. After several setbacks and injuries, Joe dedicated his life to researching how exercise and nutrition affects the body and MD. By 1987 he had competed in 13 triathlons, completing 11 of them. He also finished the Honolulu marathon. Joe worked with doctors to document his journey so others may benefit. He was an eternal optimist who strove for excellence.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held October 26th from 1 to 3 pm at Ability 360 at 5031 E Washington St, Phoenix, AZ. No perfumes are permitted at the facility. Family, friends, and anyone inspired by Joe are invited to reminisce, grieve, and celebrate Joe's life.
