Lawrence Anderson

July 19, 1948 ~ April 9, 2018 (age 69)

In the late afternoon of Monday, the ninth day of April in the year of our Lord, two thousand and eighteen, Lawrence Edward Anderson of Phoenix, AZ was called by his Heavenly Father and sustained by angels to his eternal home in Heaven at the age of 69 years after battling cancer for many years.

Lawrence, better known as Larry, was born in Houghton, Michigan to Abram and Aili Anderson. Growing up on the farm with a family sincere in faith instilled in Larry a strength and discipline that all came to respect. Larry attended Michigan Technological University and received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Larry used his education to gain a career in waste water treatment across multiple firms in Minnesota, Arizona, and North Dakota.

God gave Larry many gifts and a love for many activities. One gift that Larry had was a warm, kind heart. He loved his dear wife, Joanne, and cherished her much. He loved having guests in his home and was genuinely interested in everyone’s stories, listening keenly to what they had to say. He loved having his children and grandchildren over to visit and wanted them around at any and every occasion. During these occasions Larry loved to play Bocce Ball. He also loved to sing songs and hymns of Zion.

The most important gift that Larry had was the gift of Living Faith by believing the saving Gospel of remission of sins. Throughout his life, Larry clung to the gift of Faith as evident by his fruits of faith. He wished to be obedient to the Voice of the Spirit as he taught and strengthened many as a precious escort on the journey of Faith. God blessed Larry in his Faith. Larry was an anchor to his family, a precious escort in faith. Larry has “fought a good fight… finished [his] course… [and] kept the faith,” (2 Tim 4:7) and leaves behind the testimony of a pardoned sinner in Living Faith.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Joanne of Phoenix, AZ; ten loving children (and spouses)─ Laura (Eldon Pirness), Anita (Grant Jurvakainen), Aaron (Miltsu), Todd (Ruthanne), Janelle, Lars (Kristina), Tyler (Christy), Tiffany (Stefan Forstie), David (Jolene), and Jailene (Daryl Forstie); 69 grandchildren; one brother Clifford and five sisters Priscilla Keranen, Kathy Keranen, Virginia Erkkila, Phyllis Ramos, and Shirley Josephson; and many close friends across the United States, Canada, and Finland. Preceding in death were Larry’s daughter Jennifer and son Justin, grandson Caden Anderson, parents Abram and Aili, stepmother Helen Lehtola Linna, paternal grandparents Antti (Portaankorva) Anderson and Hilma Maria (Kumara) Anderson, maternal grandparents Matt Maki and Johanna Sophia (Pikkarainen) Maki , stepsister Sharon Anderson, and son-in-law Troy Niskanen.
