MGySgt Roger Alan Van Houten (Retired), 71, of Chandler, AZ passed away on July 25, 2018. Roger was born on October 28, 1946 in Tacoma, WA. Roger proudly served his country for over 21 years in the USMC. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Roger is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marianne; daughters, Kimberly (Jon), Wendy (Randy) and Melinda (Matt); six grandchildren, James, Lillian, Brooke, Courtney, Brendan, and Julian; and sister Carlene (Norm). A memorial service will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary on Monday, August 13th at 9:30am. Interment with full military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will take place at 11:00am, followed by a reception back at the mortuary. A Celebration of Life for Roger’s family and friends will be held from 4:00-7:00pm at his daughter's home in Chandler. Roger was passionate about helping people with disabilities through sports and recreation. A fund to help disabled students at Hamilton High School in Chandler, where Melinda is a teacher, will be established in his honor.
