Obituary

Dolores Philomena McPaul Vitucci 73 – She lived a really good life!

 Born March 23rd 1948 Slipped Away September 6th 2021

Dolores was born in the village of Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, Ireland.  She is the last of eight children of Barney and Breda McPaul…and the third to leave this world for the next.

She attended catholic schools in the village and after graduation in 1965, she took a business course and went to work for C B Paper Sacks in Clondalkin, Ireland.

In 1968 Dolores applied to join her sister Ann in the United States and was accepted.

In November 1970 Dolores met Ernie Vitucci while working at the Daily Pilot Newspaper in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, California.  They fell in love and were Engaged on March 23rd, Dolores’ Birthday and Married on May 29th 1971. She later became an American Citizen.

Dolores and Ernie created two daughters, Alanna and Erin.  Alanna created two daughters, grandchildren to Dolores and Ernie…Tara and Emma Feeney.

They started married life in a mobile home at the Sea Cliffe Mobile Home Park at 890 West 15th Street, Newport Beach, California, in a new coach purchased by Ernie the year before.  The park is still in existence.

After a few years, they decided to try for a child and could not do so if they stayed in the mobile home park, so they purchased a two bedroom, two bathroom town house in Cypress California.  Alanna was born in 1975 while they were living in that town house.

Dolores decided that they needed a bigger home, so they purchased a semi-fixer-upper in Huntington Beach in 1979.  Erin was born while living in this house in 1984.

Dolores, once again decided a larger house was necessary so the family moved to ‘The Breakers’ in San Clemente in 1989.

Dolores and Ernie moved once again in 1997 to  ‘Ancala’  in Scottsdale, Arizona, as Ernie moved from working 30 years for The Times Mirror Company, publisher of The Los Angeles Times and other publications to working for TOSCO Corporation and then Metro Commercial Properties.  Tara and Emma were born while living in the Scottsdale house.

Dolores and Ernie retired in 2012 and they enjoyed a great retirement until November 2020 when Dolores suffered a Brain Bleed.

She recovered by March of 2021 and enjoyed a week in New Mexico, visiting Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Taos, Albuquerque and Winslow, Arizona along with Ernie, Alanna, and Emma.

Upon returning to Scottsdale, she began to experience severe continuing stomach pains that turned out to be a twisted bowel and colon.  It was diagnosed in August of 2021.

Two operations were undertaken in order to attempt to save her life, unfortunately, while the operations themselves were successful, the sepsus that resulted from the leaking colon, could not be overcome, and Dolores slipped away at 7pm on September 6th with Ernie, Alanna, Erin, Tara and Emma at her side.

May she rest in Heaven with the members of her family who went before her and may Ernie and others join her as time passes.
