Donna was a first generation American as her parents came through Ellis Island by way of Kolding, Denmark. She was very proud of her Danish ‘Viking’ heritage.
Donna spent her entire life serving others, going above and beyond making sure others needs were met before her own. At a young age in the north side of Chicago she worked in a bakery which was where she began her career in serving others. She moved to Arizona in 1960, she would work for many years at a lunch counter at Margraff Pharmacy which is where she met and made many lifelong relationships. She worked a short time at Lutes Pharmacy’s soda fountain but she would find her true calling working at Scottsdale Community College (SCC) as an employee and an alumnus. She would spend 20+ years’ working in the cafeteria and snack bar serving the student, staff and faculty. She would also volunteer her services to the Criminal Justice classes with their mock trials and the Children’s Fair for the Child Enrichment Center. She took much pride in never missing a day of work and the friends she made throughout the years. Those friends would later become the ‘Lunch Bunch’ who would meet monthly where they would visit and catch up with each other. Donna’s love of sports was undeniable, she would return back to SCC where she enjoyed working in athletics assisting with ticket sales for the Athletic games and meeting the athletes and their families. Her adoration of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks always made for great discussions.
Donna was very active in her women’s sorority ‘Beta Sigma Phi’ for over 50 years (1968). She would serve at every capacity over the years whether it be as President or Secretary of her Chapter and or City Council. Her service would continue as she loved working with her sorority sisters on the various upcoming conventions and events.
