Doris W. Scottie Welch

On the evening of November 26th Scottie McAllister Welch went to join her beloved husband Bill in heaven. They had been married for 65 years. Born January 27th, 1920 in Lovington, IL. to Perry and Grace McAllister, Scottie lived a charmed life for nearly 95 years. She lived her childhood in the Illinois river town of Beardstown with her brother Charlie and sister Bobby. She met her future husband Bill Welch when she was 13 while both were in high school. Married in 1942, they spent their honeymoon in Chicago at the Hotel Sherman and danced the night away to Jimmy Dorsey and his band. They moved to Madison WI. where Bill had a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, then off to Harvard where Bill worked as a pioneer in radio research. Now Dr. H.W. Bill Welch, they moved to Ann Arbor, MI. where he taught electrical engineering at the University of Michigan. Scottie and Bill moved permanently to Phoenix, AZ in 1957, where Bill was first a Vice President of Motorola and later a professor on electrical engineering at Arizona State University. Scottie and Bill traveled the world together, Europe, Hawaii, chartering a sailing ship in Tahiti to renew their vows on their 50th. Anniversary. Scottie loved Arizona and the blue waters of the Pacific. Scottie devoted her life to her husband Bill, her children William Michael and Barbara Joy, her multitude of friends and family members making life a pure joy for all who knew her. Scottie was the heart of the family I love you were frequent words that passed her lips. Preceding her in death were her husband Bill, brother Charlie, sister Bobby, granddaughter Kelly and grandson Ryan. She is survived by son Bill and wife Sally, daughter Barbee, her sister in law Lynn McAllister grandsons Mike and wife Sarah, Scott and wife Jalene, Jeff and wife Analuisa, granddaughter Christy and husband Hunter, seven great grandchildren, loving and cherished extended family and lifetime devoted friends.

Services: Memorial services will be held in the Memorial Gardens at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Dr. in Paradise Valley at 11am on Saturday December 13th. Reception will follow.
