Dorothy (Dottie) Eskew, Phoenix, passed peacefully at Hospice of the Valley Gardiner Home on June 30, 2021.
She was born June 6, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio where she grew up spending joyful summer on Kelly's Island. She is survived by her younger sister Polly Browning, 3 children Linda, Paul and Jack, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and other extended family. Dorothy enlisted in the Women's Army Corp at the age of 18 quickly attaining the rank of Sargent serving in occupied Germany. After raising her family, she went back to school to train in the skills necessary to have a career first as a Medical Assistant Front and Back Office in a doctor's office followed by a second career as a Claims Agent for AETNA then Pacific Mutual. In retirement, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, travel, and Sunday dinners with family.
Included in Dorothy's personal effects was a note titled “My Obituary” dated September 17, 2001 which read as follows:
“Please make contributions to St. Jude Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation or Hospice.
If St. Jude can't cure the children, Make-A-Wish can fulfill a dream and, if all else fails,
Hospice can and will ease the pain of all patients and family members plus friends,
neighbors, and relatives.
