Dr. Michael H. Riegger was born August 12, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating magna cum laude with his DVM from Iowa State University and as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners he moved to New Mexico and started Northwest Animal Clinic & Hospital on Alameda Blvd in Albuquerque. In addition to the practice of veterinarian medicine Michael was widely recognized for his expertise in all aspects of veterinary practice management, authoring nearly 1,000 articles, podcasts and text books, as well as being a columnist for DVM News Magazine and an adjunct professor at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Throughout his career he received numerous awards and honors including New Mexico Veterinarian of the Year, and the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine Stange Award.
Michael lived a full life with the “love of his life”, Jacqueline “Jackie” Riegger, on their horse property in Scottsdale, Arizona. Almost weekly he was traveling between Albuquerque and Scottsdale living his dream of practicing veterinarian medicine and riding his horses. Michael and Jackie shared a happy, active and adventuresome life together. They loved their animals more than just about anything.
We are saddened to no longer be in his presence, but we are comforted knowing that his legacy will live on through the many people he mentored and taught over the years. We will continue to feel his endless love.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you can make a contribution to one of the following, Michael H.
