Elizabeth Ann Wood, 81, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on 11/19/2021. Elizabeth was born on 11/27/1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Oscar and Marie Lofgren. The eldest of four children, she attended St. Benedict’s grade school and The Immaculata High School. Growing up, she enjoyed playing the organ and piano, painting, knitting and macramé, along with teaching her younger sisters how to build scrapbooks. In the winters she’d ice skate on the frozen Chicago lakes. During the summers she loved roller skating and spending weekends at the family cottage. As a teen, she became a cadet with the Civil Air Patrol. She later studied journalism at both Marquette and Loyola Universities. Like many young adults in Chicago, she created a few memories on Rush Street too. Elizabeth married Nick Cirignani in 1961, and they moved to Scottsdale in 1968. There she joined the Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, and remained a member for the rest of her life. After Nick passed away, Elizabeth met Gerald Wood. They were married on 08/10/1973 and have shared the past 48 years together. Elizabeth went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University and obtain her CPA license. Although she spent some time working as a CPA and as an Auditor for Citibank, most of her adult years were dedicated to raising her children. She always met the challenge of recognizing each child’s unique qualities; and in turn encouraged each to succeed wherever those qualities were. Elizabeth’s children were her world. And with the birth of each new grandchild and great-grandchild, that world would light up another notch. She always looked forward to holidays and shamelessly showing off her famous Italian cooking. When the kids weren’t around, she’d read, do puzzles and spend time with her husband watching their favorite shows and dining at their favorite restaurants. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Gerald Wood; children John Cirignani, Kristine Cirignani Wallace, Daniel Cirignani Wood, Vincent Wood and Jennifer Baldwin; grandchildren Stephanie, Alex, Leah, Nikki, Kaylie, Reyna, Shaylee, Gabriel, Nicolas, Jack & Thomas; great-grandchild Micah, sisters Mary Cronover and Ginger Korcal; plus many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by sons Peter Cirignani Wood, Paul Cirignani, Mark Cirignani and brother, David Lofgren. Elizabeth will be remembered most for her love and devotion to her husband (and her rock) Gerald along with her children and grandchildren. In particular, they will always admire the strength she found to overcome a series of early life challenges that many could never fathom, yet still managed to be a caring & loving wife, mother and grandmother.
