Evie Ries, 76, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022, at home. Her husband and two sons (along with their families) were by her side at her passing. She was visited by many of her beloved friends in her last days. Evie was born in Maryland to a large and close-knit family, and even though she spent most of her life in Scottsdale, she had stayed in close contact with all her extended family.
She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, volunteering in many aspects, including the YuleMart group, who make crafts to sell to support the church. Her three greatest characteristics were her love of others, her kindness, and her generosity. Skilled at crocheting and knitting, she would make and give afghans to friends and acquaintances, including the nurses who had helped with her medical condition. She even converted a 2-car garage into a crafting room where she could make greeting cards, memory books and Christmas decorations. She loved Christmas and celebrated it wholeheartedly by lavishly decorating her house with lights and decorations and giving many gifts to her extended family and friends. Additionally, she loved to travel domestically and internationally, always with her family. Her favorites were cruising and the frequent trips to the South Pacific, especially the beautiful island of Bora Bora.
Finally, Evie was one of the most loving people around. She loved children and would freely provide childcare for the babies and children of neighbors, so the moms could work. She was such an impact on these children that they even continued to stay in touch in their adulthood. She would always give you a hug, and she ended every conversation with “I love you” and she truly meant it. She will be greatly missed by all her many friends and family.
Services are under the care of Messinger Indian School Mortuary at Bethany Lutheran Church on Aug. 5, 2022, at 10:30am, followed by burial at Paradise Memorial Gardens, Scottsdale.
