Obituary

Our beloved mother, Joanne Winifred Bonfilio passed away at her home surrounded by her children, in the early morning hours of January 23rd.  She was born to Grace Antoinette Donovan and John Joseph O’Reilly in Woodside, New York on March 20, 1935. Joanne was a graduate of St. Michaels Academy and went on to Hunter College. Her career started at Eastern Airlines and IBM. After raising her family, she went on to her next career as a lead investigator with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, specializing in new car dealer fraud. Legendary in town and at the Department of Justice for helping consumers around the state, with her persistency, tenacity and no-nonsense approach to helping people. The car dealers around the state nicknamed her, the “Bulldog”, a name that she loved being known by in town. After retiring from the State at 68, she went on to work many more years at a Phoenix car dealership. An avid reader, she loved a good spy novel and in her later years, became an expert NCIS sleuth, solving many of the mysteries before the end of the show.  Her many interests included camping, quilting, crafting, and an expert spectator of tennis and golf.

Her proudest accomplishment and the greatest joy of her life was her family, which she dearly loved. A great story-teller, she would often recount the stories of her seven children, Denise, Lisa (Matt) Tokasey, Stephanie, Eugene, Tina, Owen (Jen), and John (Julie). She was affectionately known as Nana to her 13 grandchildren and great nana to her three great grandchildren. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 55 years, Francis Bonfilio, and her big brother John “Jack” O’Reilly, and her treasured dog, Georgia, sitting at her feet right now.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. And her iconic hair style will be missed. Mom, we hope they have good “beauty parlors” in Heaven.

Blessings From All of Us – We love you Mom!
