John “Johnnie” Walker was born August 28th, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK. John is one of three children born to Julius Edward Walker and Ila Vinita (Sexton) Walker. As a young man he attended McLoud Highschool and then entered Oklahoma State University for 3 years where he applied his financial acumen to finance.

World events temporarily changed his life when faced with a draft. He opted to enlist in the Navy in 1967. John married his first wife Karen (Reid) Walker before he left training in California. What should have only been a brief stint as a reservist turned into a two-year commitment on Shore Duty in Vietnam near the Mekong River where he stood behind twin 50 machine guns on a PT boat.

A well decorated service man, John returned to Oklahoma to finish his senior year then earn a masters in Accounting. Their two sons arrived a few years after he finished university. John worked in Tulsa as an accountant for Spartan Aviation which manufactured aircraft and motorhomes. After ten years, John left Spartan to work for a competitor. Basically, John was the guy they relied on to trouble shoot private career tech schools. The firm moved him and his family around the country to states which included Maryland, Colorado, Minnesota. West VA and California. Laser focused; John completed financial evaluation of various schools.

Fast forward, John got a chance to return to Spartan as CFO. John jumped in and within a few years makes a successful offer to buy the company. He expanded the pilot and mechanic training programs which were used in the military such as the coast guard. Approximately ten years later, John retired and sold the company.

John, the middle child and his two brothers all had a passion for golf, baseball, basketball and fishing. An annual fly-fishing trip on the Rio Grande river was a tradition. They stayed at a lodge in Creede, CO and had many wonderful memories. According to his brother Jim, John was the best fisherman of the bunch. John carried on his father’s love of golfing and won many tournaments. Most recently John placed in the XLII Senior Golf Tournament, Legends category in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Widowed after a 47 year marriage, John met his beautiful wife Teresa in the sport he loved most...golfing. John and Teresa enjoyed almost a decade traveling and building a home together. Teresa was by his side during his battle with cancer. With a heavy heart, John will be remembered as an optimistic, loving, kind man and admired by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife Teresa Palmer, Scottsdale, AZ; Brother Jim (Kathy) Walker; sons Blain (Stephanie) Walker, Denver, CO and Justin (Reanda) Walker, Vail, CO; Grandchildren Claire, Cash, Noah and Reid; Uncle John (Pat) Walker.
