Joseph Howard Rundle

1938 - 2021

The heavens are filled with engines racing! “Big Joe” Rundle, so fondly remembered with a smile took his many talents and memories to meet with his beloved family and friends on February 27th at the BIG RACE TRACK above! Honorably named, Joseph Howard Rundle at birth, December 18, 1938 in Tempe, Arizona. Joe was a native-born Arizonan and spent his entire life amongst the cacti and pines. His grandparents Howard C. and Amy L. Baber came to Arizona before 1910 and opened Baber Mercantile on Mill Avenue to serve the Tempe families. Their daughter, Virginia B. Rundle, his beloved mother, was always very proud of the fact that she was born here when Arizona was still a territory. Upon marrying his father, Larry S. Rundle, they were merchants in Phoenix, as well as opening Rundle’s market right in the heart of Tempe. Joe began his love of racing by selling auto parts in the butcher shop in his parent’s store in his teenage years. He then fulfilled the American dream by opening his very own auto parts store aptly named, Rundle's Speed Goodies, on the corner of Price and Apache Blvd. Upon a successful start, he then moved to a larger building on the same corner and changed the name to Rundle's Auto Parts. The years blessed him and treated him well! He then moved to Payson and opened his third store, “Rundle’s Speed and Feed”.  He is survived by his wife Laurinda Jane Rundle; siblings, Helen V. Wunderley (Ron), Margaret A. Nash; and was preceded in death by “Buzz”, Laurence S. Rundle, Jr. (Carol). Cherished as “Dad Extraordinaire” by his children Cindy Rundle, Janet Cox (Ed), Lori Keeley, Joseph Laurence Rundle “Little Joe” and his grandchildren, Jennifer M. Ludeman (Luke), Stephen Joseph Cox (Nicole), Candace J. Krahn (Kevin) and his first great-granddaughter, Raegan Grace Cox. So excited to share that new grandson is on his way which will make Grandpa Joe a double Great Grandpa! Amazingly, we are all still Arizona residents!
