Laurina Lucia (Lucy) Marchionda, 89, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on June 23, 2020, with her loving family by her side. Lucy was born on May 11, 1931 in Pacentro, Italy to Anna DeChellis and Gaetano Mastramico. She was the third of eight children and left her hometown when she married her husband, Salvatore Marchionda (deceased), in 1951 and moved to Venezuela to build a new life together. In time, they immigrated to the United States in 1970 with their three children but her husband unfortunately passed away suddenly a year after their arrival. As a single mother, Lucy supported her family working as a full time seamstress; ultimately, opening her own family business in interior design and drapery manufacturing in 1983 called Anna’s Drapery Shop where it still operates today in Allen Park, MI. After living in Michigan for 22 years, Lucy moved to Arizona where she enjoyed the last 27 years of her life in the sunshine tending her grapefruit trees, sewing beside her eldest daughter, and watching telenovelas and her favorite fighter, Walker, Texas Ranger.
Lucy is survived by her daughters, Anna (Angelo) Savone of Scottsdale, AZ and Elena (Steven) Neirink of Grand Blanc, MI, son, Gaetano (Abbe) Marchionda of Farmington Hills, MI, eight grandchildren, Rosanna, Michael, John (Adrienne), Diana, Ethan, Genevieve, Jacob, and Julian, and four great grandchildren, Evan, Ava, Vivienne, and Enzo. She is also survived by four siblings and many nieces and nephews.
A one hour visitation will take place at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 10 am with a private funeral service held at the cemetery immediately after.
