Mary Elizabeth Reedy - Obituary

Betty was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 25, 1921, the only child of Genevieve and Fred Zickert. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School at the age of 16. She won a full scholarship to the Washington School for Secretaries with the highest score ever recorded on an application. This led to a career at Sperry Gyroscope Co. where she met her future husband Eugene Reedy from Mesquite, Texas. They were married in Hollywood, California on July 11, 1942 where they lived until Gene was sent to Recife, Brazil as a Sperry service engineer working with the U.S. Navy. They then moved to Kansas City for two years before moving back to Baldwin and Merrick, Long Island for ten years. They moved to Scottsdale in 1957 with their five children. A 6th child was born the following year. In 1962, they moved to the town of Paradise Valley

where they lived until 1996 when Gene passed away while they were vacationing in France. Betty moved to another location in Scottsdale until her death on June 9th, 2022. Betty was active in the Catholic Community, Scottsdale School District, was a volunteer at Scottsdale Hospital, and was a correspondent for the Scottsdale Daily Progress. She was passionate about her children, their education, reading, and bridge which she had played since she was age 12. She and Gene enjoyed traveling the world, but most of all spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by Ronald Reedy (Robin), Gary Reedy (Kathy), Daryl Reedy (Julie), and Diane Thomas (Gary). Her other two daughters Janet Irvin (Glenn), and Susan Volkel (Bill) pre-deceased her. There are also 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren of whom she loved

dearly. “The Betty” will be sorely missed by family and friends.
