Susan Marie Kimball Cartmell 91, died peacefully on May 25th 2022. The daughter of Richard L. and Eleanore Talbot Kimball, she was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. She attended Scripts College, Claremont, CA. and the University of Nebraska. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. She married William H. Cartmell in 1950 and they lived in Lincoln for 7 years before moving to Scottsdale AZ. and then Paradise Valley in the house Bill built and designed where they raised their children Rick and Barb. She was always involved in the arts, from sitting on the Nebraska Art Association Board to being an accredited American Association of Appraisers fine art appraiser in her own business for 30 years. In between she was a founding member of the Phoenix Art Museum, Founding Phoenix Art Museum Docent, President of the Phoenix Art Museum League, Board of the Scottsdale Artists School, founder of Scottsdale Artists School Associates, President Phoenix Arts Council, Western Art Associates Board, and member of the Heard Museum, Museum of Northern Arizona and Desert Botanical Garden. She was Director of Trailside Editions Gallery, and co-owner of Gallery 3 Scottsdale. In her retirement she was active in her church, New Covenant Lutheran Church. She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years Wiliam H Cartmell, daughter Barbara Kimball Olin, son in law Carl G Olin. Sue is survived by her son William R Cartmell, grandson Jonathon W Olin and his wife Sarah And many nieces and nephews, and her lifetime of wonderful friends.
In leu of flowers, Donations may be made in her name to your favorite charity or the Docent Committee of the Phoenix Art Museum.
A Celebration of Life will be held at New Covenant Church Tuesday June 14th at 10:30 followed by food and drink and remembrance.
