Victoria passed away March 19, 2020 in Scottsdale, Arizona just over two weeks after her 92nd birthday, which she happily spent with family and friends.
She was born in Des Moines Iowa in 1928 to Edith and Clarence Sword. After her father passed away when she was a small child, her mother remarried Mervin Wolin, who adopted Victoria.
Vicki Wolin attended Roosevelt High School, Shimer Girl’s School, and Drake University until she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Lilly in 1948. Vicki and Gary raised four daughters in West Des Moines.
Vicki devoted herself to her daughters and their activities. She served as their Camp Fire Girls leader for many years. She was also in charge of the synchronized swimming program at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club, which culminated in an elaborate show at the end of each summer with themes and costumes and music that Vicki coordinated and choreographed. When her girls got to high school, she started Valley High School’s synchronized swimming program, that is still known as The Tiger Lilies in her honor.
Gary retired from his business, Gary Lilly Volkswagen in 1984, and they moved to Arizona. She was always an active volunteer, and it continued once “Victoria,” as she was known in her later years, lived in Arizona. She spent many years volunteering at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital and later at the Mayo Clinic.
Gary predeceased her in 1988, as did her daughter Anne Lilly-Hrynyk in 2019. Victoria is survived by daughters Keven Keller, Jane Lilly, and Lisa Sommer Devlin (Matt Devlin). She adored her grandchildren, Evan Sommer, Dayn Sommer, Caitlin Sommer, and Elizabeth Devlin Fischenich (Zachary Fischenich), and her great granddaughter Amelia Devlin Fischenich.
Funeral services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of the Valley, the organization that took incredible care of Victoria in her last days. www.HOV.org
