Walter "Wally" Leo Moreland

January 14, 1947 ~ January 10, 2022 (age 74)

Obituary

Part-time resident of Denver, Colorado and Scottsdale, AZ.

Wally Moreland passed away on January 10, 2022, less than one month after receiving a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia, four days before his 75th birthday. He was surrounded by his immediate family at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Walter Leo Moreland was born to Edward A. and Anne Moreland on January 14, 1947, in Peoria, Illinois, and has an older sister Carol (Rudy), who resides part-time in Peoria and Bonita Springs, Fla. Wally is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Helle, his son Dane (Vanessa), and daughter, Kara, and five grandchildren, Sofia, Reid, Erik, Troy, and Sydney.

Wally attended NW Louisiana State and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education but spent most of his life in the manufactured home community business, first with his father in south Texas, and then in Denver, Co. where he worked nearly 40 years. He officially retired from Yes Communities in 2019.

Wally loved his family and never failed to show it, unconditionally. Nothing pleased him more than cooking special breakfasts, dinners, or holiday meals for loved ones and friends. His wonderful sense of humor kept everyone feeling positive. His optimistic outlook always made anything seem brighter. He was the rock of the family – and his wife’s, children’s, and grandchildren’s most devoted cheerleader. His family will love and miss him forever.

A Memorial Service will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary on Saturday, February 5, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
