William “BIll” D. Lanning, 88, completed his earthly journey and went Home to be with his Lord and Savior after a short period of declining health. He was the cherished and beloved husband of Lois (Gordon). They were married for 66 years.
Bill was the son of the late Dale and Ina Lanning. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Mansfield High in 1951. He attended Bryan College where he met the love of his life Lois. He later transferred to Wheaton College. Bill and Lois lived in Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Virginia and New Hampshire and most recently split their time between Grand Rapids, Michigan and Apache Junction, Arizona.
He was quiet, soft spoken, shy, generous, thoughtful, and loved his family deeply without limit second only to his love for his Savior. Bill was a brilliant physicist but he counted his greatest joy in studying God's word and leading others to faith in Jesus. He was a role model in adversity, a prayer warrior for his family and a lover of his Savior. He is singing in Heaven In addition to his cherished wife Lois, Bill is survived by three children who loved him so much; his daughters Marcia (Glenn) Osterman of Massachusetts, Betsy (Steve) Lindquist of Arizona and son David (Wendy) Lanning of North Carolina.
Bill was the adored Grandpa, Grandpie and Pa of seven grandchildren Aaron (Brandi) Osterman, Rachel (Matt) Borich, Becky (Dave) Ripley, Andrew (Jarumey) Lindquist, Daniel (Harrison) Lindquist, Taylor (Drew) Woodall and Cole Lanning and his 8 great grandchildren: Emma, Hannah, Gretta, Ingrid, Warren, Noah, Owen and Ivar. He loved and prayed for each one specifically.
He was the brother of his little sister Sue (Jerry) Neff of Lancaster, Ohio, three sisters in law Dottie, Nancy, and Beth Gordon of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He leaves behind two nieces and innumerable nieces and nephews in law. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers in law Paul, Phil and John Gordon of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
