Dwight Eugene “Gene” Moore, 73, entered his heavenly home on May 22 ending a year of battling cancer. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Vickie; his son, Derrick and children, Dominick and Jaidyn and his son, Jason (Holly) and daughters, Tessa and Izzy. Gene was one of nine children, with four brothers still living, Jake (Pat): Calvin (Juanita), Bob and Keith (Jean) along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Myrtle (Adcock) Moore, one brother, Clifford and his son, Bruce; and three sisters, Edna, Irene and Loretta.
Gene was born in Cortez, CO. He grew up in the Yuma, Mohawk and Dome Valley areas most of his life. He served two years in the Army stationed in Germany and married Vickie (Roach) in March of 1968. They lived in the Tacna and Mohawk Valley area until moving to Payson in 1985. He was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Foreman at the Yuma and Gila County Highway Departments, along with a few years driving a shuttle bus at the Grand Canyon until full retirement.
Gene was a quiet man, always of a pleasant demeanor with a kidding undertone, who loved the Lord and his family dearly. He believed in being responsible and was a dedicated, hard worker his entire life. He was a farmer at heart and found joy in yard work and gardening along with tinkering with wood projects; building yard swings was a specialty. He was a long-time member of the Payson First Assembly of God church, now Restoration Church.
A memorial service will be held June 30 at 11:00 am at the Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 901 S. Westerly Road, Payson, AZ with reception following in the Community Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Messinger are welcome for help with expenses.
