Jacquelyn Anna DeRosier Avery went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2019. She was born at home on January 31, 1931 in the arms of her loving parents, in Mesa, Arizona. She passed peacefully within the comfort of her home in Gilbert, AZ.
Jacquelyn graduated in 1952 from the Arizona State College in Tempe, Arizona with a degree in Elementary Education. She worked at Tavan Elementary School teaching second grade. She was a lifelong member of Chi Omega National Sorority.
Jacquelyn was introduced to her beloved husband, John Burl Avery, in February of 1955 by their dear friend Pauline. They married in July of 1955 at the Episcopal Church of Mesa, Arizona. Jacquelyn and her husband ran Avery’s Auto Supply and Sporting Goods at the current site of McDonalds at Thomas and Scottsdale roads.
They resided in Scottsdale, Arizona and had four children. Their family moved to Gilbert, Arizona. They resided on a mini farm which they lovingly referred to as J6 Farm.
Jacquelyn and her family enjoyed spending their summers in Pine, Arizona. They worked on renovating their property into living quarters. Jacquelyn loved spending her time exploring the Rim Country with her family. She spent her spare time doing ceramics, painting, gardening, reading, and playing solitaire. Jacquelyn loved the company of her friends and her family.
Jacquelyn participated in activities linked to the Rim Country Four Wheel Drive club, Tonto Search and Rescue, Gila County Fair, Gilbert Historical Society, and Scouts of America.
Jacquelyn is survived by her husband John and children Joseph, Jeffrey, John, Jean and John Lee. She has 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Her loving and caring spirit will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held on June 6, 2019 from 5-7pm at Messinger Indian School Mortuary. A chapel service will be held the following morning June 7, 2019 from 10-11am with light refreshments to follow. At 1pm, a graveside service will be held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Please join us as your spirit desires.
