Mrs. Susan E. Maynard (nee Koessel), born in Lansing, Michigan on April 3, 1936 to Arthur Koessel and Clara (Kuntz) Koessel, passed away on Sept. 18, 2018 of kidney failure. She was 82. Susan, or Susie as many people referred to her, is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald W. Maynard and her daughter, Amy Maynard. Her parents preceeded her in death, as did her sisters Elisabeth Koessel & Virginia Price (Koessel). Susie also leaves behind her brother, James Koessel and sisters Lenore Mueller (Koessel) and Norma May (Koessel), and many nieces and nephews.
Susie graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing and went on to Michigan State University studying clothing design before she left to work at Board of Water & Light and to get married in 1956. She was a loving mother, homemaker, seamstress, cellist and bridge player who was also known for her delicious pies and chocolate cake. She did go back to work outside of the home in several accounting positions and retired in 1995 from Michigan Catholic Conference. Shortly thereafter, she and husband, Don, purchased a house in Phoenix where they became “snowbirds” until 2001 when they moved to Arizona permanently. She passed away at her home in Phoenix.
