Blanche Baker, 84, of Fountain Hills, AZ passed away at her home in Fountain View Village on August 30, 2021.
Blanche was born February 12, 1937, in Edgemont, South Dakota to Charles and Lillian Robertson, Blanche was the eldest of 4 sisters, Blanche, Betty, Valena (Eenie), and Bonnie.
Blanche was preceded in death by her husband Gemmie Ellsworth Baker on August 31, 2006, and two of her three sisters, Bonnie Atwood (Hot Springs, SD) and Valena Stutzman (Sioux Falls, SD). Her sister Betty Larson still resides in Medford, OR.
Blanche and Gemmie were married in 1957 in South Dakota and are both survived by their son, Kim "Jake" A. Baker (Fountain Hills, AZ), and daughter, Karlyn Dee Fritz (Centralia, WA).
Gemmie and Blanche lived in various locations in South Dakota before moving to Minnesota and finally Arizona in 1977.
Blanche was a nurse her entire life, starting out as an LPN after graduating from Nursing School in Pierre, SD and after moving to Arizona, finishing her education in Scottsdale to become a Registered Nurse.
Blanche had been living single in her townhouse in Scottsdale Mountain near the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale for the last 15 years since the passing of Gemmie, until her eyesight and balance had started to cause her concern.
She had just recently moved to her apartment in the Fountain View Village Independent Living facility in Fountain Hills where she had started to make a number of new friends and create a busy schedule with daily activities.
Blanche passed away the evening of August 30th shortly after her evening meal with her 3 closest friends while walking back to her apartment.
After speaking with her doctors, and specifically her cardiologist, after her passing, we learned that Blanche had been experiencing heart pains over the last several weeks. Her cardiologist determined that Blanche had experienced a major cardiac event just days prior to her fatal event and was certain nothing could have been done to prevent her events of her final day.
She will be missed by numerous friends and relatives, but she is in a better place for now with a hope of being reunited in the future with her husband, sisters and other family and friends.
Plans for a remembrance of her life in the Spring of 2022 are in process.
The urns and ashes of Blanche and Gemmie will be laid to rest together on the grave site of Gemmie's mother Elsie and next to his father Vern at the Riverside Cemetery in Pierre, South Dakota sometime in late Spring of 2022.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please spend some time celebrating and talking with your family members.
