James Lee Thompson (Jimmie Lee) 84, passed away on July 30, 2022. He was born and raised in Flatwoods, Kentucky and was married to the love of his life, Donna Faye (Miller) Thompson, for 63 years.
Jim and Donna, along with their three daughters, moved from Columbus, OH to Scottsdale, AZ in 1967. Jim worked at AirResearch/Garrett/Allied Signal/Honeywell as a manufacturing engineer for more than 35 years. His work took him and Donna to China and then the Czech Republic. During their time abroad, they gallivanted across the globe, taking in the sights, sounds and flavors of numerous countries and cultures.
Jim and Donna retired to Arizona in 2004 for the mild winters in Anthem and the cool summers in Pinetop. He enjoyed retirement with Donna, their three dogs and spending as much time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren as possible.
As an avid sports fan, if it had a ball, racquet, club or bat, high school, college or professional, it didn’t matter. Jim loved the camaraderie and competition of sports. This passion led to the frequent banter between family members, especially those who challenged his loyalty to his Kentucky Wildcats over the “other” Wildcats of Arizona. As he knew it, there is only one WILDCATS team, although there are still some who will continue to contest! He never held a grudge against those confused, diehard Michigan fans rather than his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
Jim lived a fulfilling, rewarding life, and his love and pride for his family was deep and everlasting. Every acquaintance of Jim, be they friend or family member is better for having known and been loved by him.
Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna Faye.
He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law; Cheryl and Rick Dow, Angela and James McClain, Lynn Thompson, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
His brothers Bill Thompson, Donald Thompson, sisters Katrina Hamilton, Katherine Bush and sister-in-law Jackie McPeek. Also, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12th, at 11:00 AM at Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale, AZ.
