Richard Netzel

March 3, 1927 ~ November 17, 2021 (age 94)

Richard (Dick) Netzel passed away peacefully at home in Phoenix, Arizona on November 17, 2021 at age 94.

Born on March 3, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, Dick graduated from Lane Tech in Chicago before being drafted into the Army, serving overseas in France and Germany in World War II. After the war, Dick took advantage of the GI bill to attend college courses and married his sweetheart Audrey in April of 1948. Possessing a keen analytical and technical mind, Dick began his career with Motorola in their Government Electronics Division in 1953. After Motorola opened a new plant in Phoenix, AZ in 1957 and offered Dick the opportunity, Dick and his family embarked on a new adventure in the desert.

Dick was blessed with two sons and enjoyed hunting and fishing with them in his free time. He also enjoyed bowling and playing poker. Dick retired after 35 years with Motorola in 1988. In retirement, Dick and Audrey travelled the world and Dick took great pleasure in playing an integral role in raising their four grandchildren. Dick instilled in his children and grandchildren an appreciation for and commitment to maintaining a tight-knit family. Despite being spread across the country, they all continue to spend time together regularly.

Dick is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 73 years Audrey, son Neal and wife Cheryl in Chicago, son Brian and wife Donna in Phoenix, grandchildren Ann, Kyle, Katie, and Neal, and three brand-new great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Betty-Ann of Illinois.

A memorial service is planned to be held at a future date.
